Contracting Agent:
Alliance Environmental
Project Location:
Reading Hospital
Reading, PA
Project Highlights:
Atlantic Concrete Cutting was contracted to use diamond wire saws to slice away the two radiology rooms from the rest of Building C at Reading Hospital to prepare it for demolition. These rooms were constructed with 28” thick walls and a 60” thick roof to block x-rays. To separate the rooms, the left-hand wall and ceiling had to be cut, then the back of the middle wall between the rooms, then the back ceiling of both rooms, and finally the right-hand wall and ceiling. Cutting was done with a special foam instead of water because other demolition was being done in the area and water runoff would have caused problems. Once the general contractor finishes the demolition of the rooms and removes the rubble, Atlantic will return to wire saw the remaining left-hand wall and back wall from the existing building.
